VISION Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the difference between Flash and Download?A. When the user does a download to the controller, they are storing the data in the Emulator and those changes are only active until the PCM is powered down.
If the user performs a flash command, the data is flashed to the Emulator and to the flash memory of the PCM, and those values are active until another flash command is performed.
Q. How do I set up a template to use in my recorder files?
A. Once the recorder file is set up how the user wants to save it as a template, the user selects the "Recording" option from the drop down menus. Then the user selects "Layout Manager" from the drop-down. Then choose the "Save As" button and save the layout to whichever name the user chooses.
To have this layout open every time you take a recording the user can save the layout as "Program Default".
Q. I have 2 of the same type of EDAQ in a project file and 1 will not came on-line, what do I do?
A. Right mouse click on the EDAQ that is off-line and go to the properties field.
Click the Assign serial number button for a list of EDAQ's and their serial numbers.
Choose the serial number of the EDAQ that is off-line and hit OK.
Q. What is the M5 memory capacity?
A. The M5 has two 1MB banks of emulation memory. This memory is used to store Code and Data for the PCM. The layout and use of these is based on application.
Q. When I enter the password to install a VISION release the next button remains grayed out, why?
A. The wrong password was entered or the user did not capitalize appropriate characters
Q. What Operating Systems (OS) are supported in VISION?
A. VISION 1.x - VISION 2.4
Win98, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP
VISION 2.5 - latest (Win98 no longer supported)
WinNT, Win2000, WinXP
Windows VISTA is currently not supported, but planned.
Q. What are strategy presets and where are they defined?
A. The strategy presets are settings that need to be defined in order for VISION to communicate with each controller. These settings include memory map information and device settings like DAQ list information and the like.
These settings are either read directly from you device description file (.ati, .a2l, or .rob), or contained in a VISION strategy presets file.
Q. When I start a recorder I either get an error on the recorder object "Missing channels" or yellow exclamation point.
A. 1) User is asking for more data than the ECU can provide at the requested sample rate.
2) VISION is not receiving data from the device because target is turned off.
3) PCMCIA USB card throughput limitations.
4) Overload of the USB capabilities.
Q. If I open a recorder file the "add axis" option is grayed out, what do I have to do?
A. In the Recorder file's page properties go to the Graph Tab and uncheck the "Normalized" box. Now when you right mouse click in the Recorder window you can add your axis.
Q. All of my USB devices are powered up, but they will not go online, what do I do?
A. 1) USB driver is not installed properly in Windows.
2) Incorrect USB driver installed in Windows.
3) Faulty USB port on the PC.
4) Faulty USB Defender.
5) Faulty 4 port commercial splitter.
6) Faulty USB cables.
7) Problems exist at the USB device.

Q. What is a TAB board and what is it used for?
A. The Tool Adapter board is used to route the signals needed from the PCM to the M5's interface connector, and it is used to interface the M5 with the PCM.
Q. What versions of CCP are currently supported in VISION?
A. ATI supports the ASAM standard CP 2.0 and 2.1 as well as variations applied by our customers.
