Data acquisition is required for a wide range of applications and as a result, there are just as many ranges of hardware choices. Performance and consequent cost are the main decision factors when selecting data acquisition hardware. Higher performance is associated with more channels, higher bandwidths and faster data rates. Other features that can impact hardware cost are the addition of signal filtering for noise isolation or ruggedization of hardware for use in the harshest environments. Lower cost devices can be utilized in situations where data can be collected slowly, less often or in smaller amounts.
